Interestingly enough we found this – an entire site expounding the horrors of LocAuto – and really want to share it with our readers!

LocAuto is NOT a reputable company. They deserve to go bust. And we hope they do.

DON’T RENT LOCAUTO

With your permission, I’ll just share here below the review I have written for Locauto on TripAdvisor.

We have always rented cars for our holidays, and we never had any problems, but deciding to rent from this company (Locauto) has effectively ruined our last holiday in Italy, and I would like this to at least be a warning to other people considering this company. Unfortunately, as usually happens, I only now – when it is too late – realise what a huge dissatisfaction rate this company has with its customers, as can be easily seen by doing a search with their name.

Our car had been pre-paid in full over the Internet, yet because we arrived a few hours later than the time I indicated in the booking, they said they cancelled our booking and have no car for us. All of that was said in a very rude and completely unapologetic way, and we were left both without a car for our holiday and with no refund whatsoever.

No-one from Locauto had called to warn us that if we don’t show up in the next X hours or so we’d lose the car, and a subsequent careful inspection of the Contract revealed that there was no mention of how long the “tolerance interval” around the indicated pick-up time (“no-show”) is. It therefore seems reasonable to assume that if you showed up on that day later than time specified, it would only be your loss because you will have the car for less time. Since I had already paid for it, the car should have been put aside for us in the parking lot, rather than being rented again to someone else, as it has been!

Had the people behind the desk been at least a bit friendly and understanding at the huge inconvenience they had caused us, I would have probably just left it there. In the meantime, however, I have sought legal advice and I will be going after them for every penny they took from us, including compensation for our ruined holiday plans.

    DO NEVER BOOK LOCAUTO!

    I have a similar story.
I rented a car at LOCAUTO Napels.
At my return they asked me to park the car in a place a few kilometers away from the office at the airport (arrivals).
There was no one available to go and check the car.
One week later they booked 250 euros from my credit card for scrathes. I never damaged the car!
The booking was done by LOCAUTO REGGIO CALABRIA.
Their emails were confusing and full of lies.
    These people are criminals!

We have been making use of locAuto for these last 18 months that is we hired a car 13 times for 4/5 days every time and always paid the supplement for super insurance. We were pleased with their service thought nothing to bost about but the staff at the Fiumicino Airport were always helpful. However the last time we hired a car from Locauto the car had a breakdown but luckily enough by hook pr by crook i managed to drive to the nearest service station who was extremely helpful. the fault was the car hot very hot marking red to the highest point. The attendant noticed that the car was without water and the tap of the water tank was half opened this was all due to negligence from Locauto employees. We phoned Locauto and the service station gentleman spoke to Sara and informed her that the car needs to cool down than one hs to ofcourse fill it with Paraflu liquid water and hope the cars cools down and the water does flow out from somewhere else. So he fixed it and the car was ok the gentleman presented me with the bill of Euros 30 for the liquid he used and i gave an extra 10 Euros because he save me a hell of hassles. This gentleman without metelling him anything phoned Locauto and asked her who is paying for the expence and after speaking with Sara he handed me the telephone and she repeated to me in English that on returning the car at the airport we do the claim and than Locauto head office will credit us with these Euros30. So at the airport we were told to write to the head office and than they will answer you. we wrote 4 times to ask them for the refund but to our surprice Sara wrote to tell us that LOCAUTO WERE NOT INFORMED BEFORE HAND AND WE HAD TO SHOW IN WRITING THAT LOCAUTO HAVE GIVEN US THE GO AHEAD TO REPAIR THE FAULT. THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE, SENCELESS AND VER UNPROFESSIONAL. HOW COULD SHE HAVE GIVEN ME IN WRITING TO GO AHEAD AND REPAIR THE CAR Euros 30 when i was on the autostrada. THE END RSULT I LOST EUROS 30 AND THEY LOST A LOYAL CLIENT .

  • Hey Corey! Thanks for sipoptng by. Keep checking back over the next few months–I’ll be talking logistics before departure. This trip happened because I took a three-month trip a couple of summers ago and was hooked. My recommendation is not to wait until you feel comfortable–the only way to get that is to just go for it. You could start smaller, though, a lot of people hit a month or two and start getting homesick. I’d go for just a month or three if you can swing it, and then plan from there.

I have another similar story played out at Locauto Rome Airport. They are running some kind of scam where they get the cheapest prices on price comparison sites and agencies, then make up their revenue through spurious damage claims.

Customer service is well versed in deflecting complaints and you won’t get your money back, so better to AVOID LOCAUTO AT ALL COSTS.

Yes Tony!!! thank you! We had not thought of it that way but you are correct! they are running a scam and then making up for cheap prices with their illicit activities and over charging for damages that never happened.
